Customize Bill of Material Template Using SOLIDWORKS
Last blog is related with customizing drawing Template, Property Tab Builder in SOLIDWORKS. Now in this Blog we are going to see how to customize Bill of Material Template using SOLIDWORKS.
Generally, there are two types of Bill of Material
- Engineering Bill of Material (EBOM) (Includes MBOM + Packaging +Accessories)
- Mechanical Bill of Material (MBOM) (Includes Mechanical Components)
SOLIDWORKS Provides various Tools which makes repetitive tasks easier to manage.
The Bill of Materials templates help us in saving our Bill of Materials in desired format which will be used frequently, thereby reducing the rework.
Here we are taking Rotating Base Sub-assembly of Laser Lamp Assembly to customize BOM Template.
Procedure:

Make drawing of assembly Rotating Base. & Insert Isometric view of assembly Fig 1.
Add Bill of Material from Annotation<Table<Bill of Material then select assembly
2. Select view you will get Bill of Material property manager window.
3. Customize Bill of Material Fig 3 & 4
- Change Property assigned to column
- Add or Delete Column
4. Final Customised BOM
5. Set Anchor point of BOM
6. Select Point for location of BOM. Then Set anchor Point. as shown in fig 6
7. Save BOM Template in location as .sldbomtbt as shown in fig 7
8. Save as in this location as shown in fig 8
9. Select that BOM Template for next Assemblies
Conclusion:
Bill of Material is an easiest and Quickest way of representing all details of an assembly parts with its all properties and parameters for clarity in assembly drawing. You can rearrange, modify the properties of assembly parts at any stage of drawing in easiest way with minimum time.
