RESUME WRITING

  • You are engineering graduates your skill set, Technical Knowledge, Body Language and Positive Attitude is key for success, first step towards it is your Resume / (Mirror).
  • Kindly note, Good Resume does not mean it content all relevant information, but it provides the relevant information and creates curiosity / interest / few questions in employer’s mind.
  • Do not provide your resume to your friend / colleague unless you achieved your goal

WHAT IS A RESUME?

  • A resume (also spelled résumé) is a formal document that highlights person’s Career Background, Achievements, Abilities and Skillsets.
  • In most cases, it’s created in order to help a candidate to land a new job.
  • A traditional resume consists of a Professional Summary, Work history, Education, and Personal Details

WHY IS A RESUME IMPORTANT?

  • Resumes are the first thing the prospective employer sees about you.
  • First impression is the Best Impression on the recruiter.
  • That’s why a resume is one of the most important steps in the job application process.

WHY COVER LETTER IMPORTANT?

  • Resume must be sent along with a cover letter. What’s the difference between the two?
  • A resume is a bulleted overview of your work experience.
  • A cover letter, as the name suggests, shows your skills and accomplishments in the letter form.

RULES OF RESUME WRITING?

  • Yes, but only a few!

This Includes,

  • No typing errors, No errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation.
  • No lying or Information included in resume, information must be validated through proper documents such as internship letter, salary slip, experience letter etc.
  • No negative information should be included
  • Never be more than two/three pages long and no information is repeated.
  • Keep a fixed / uniform spacing between lines
  • Minimize the usage of the bold, up down fonts and italics or underline functions
  • Avoid all capitals, use the proper case throughout

WHAT IS ITS SIZE AND HOW IS IT PRESENTED?

A resume must not be too short nor too long

  • For a entry level fresher – 1 to 2 pages
  • For a middle level senior profile – 2 to 3 pages
  • For a higher level experienced– 4 to 6 pages

WHAT IS THE LAYOUT OF THE RESUME?

  • PAPER-A4 size, white, at least 80 gsm, used on one side print only
  • Use normal Margin from all directions
  • Go for single or 1.15 line spacing.
  • Use the readable font for a resume and keep it 11 or 12 pt.
  • Use a good quality printer to print the copies (no Photo Copy)
  • Signature with Date
  • Add Proper Professional Photo
  • Use only one font (or at a maximum two) and a maximum of two font sizes

LAYOUT OF RESUME?

  1. Initial Content
    • Your Name, Phone Number, E-mail ID, Photo and the most important information should be on the top of first page
    • All information should be presented in the descending order of importance
  2. Objective
    • Clear, focused and towards organization objective.
    • Less than 2 lines
    • Do not use jargon’s, or complicated sentences.
  3. Work Experience
    • Earlier Industrial exposure, your job titles, company names, duties, and years worked
    • Work Details, your Involvement
    • Results and Achievements (Patent)
  4. Education Details
    • In top down series (Latest First)
    • Includes Degrees, your school/ university names, year of passing, percentage
    • You can use Tabular format or Writing format (Contact CAD Infield HR Team and Online Help Desk)
  5. Project Details (Starts from Higher Qualification)
    • Includes Project Title, Team Size, Objective of Project, Introduction, Roles and Responsibilities, Result
    • Define result in quantifiable or measurable
  6. TRAINING
    • Training includes
      1. Vocational training / MCVC
      2. Sandwich training
  • Apprentice / Industrial training
  • Check on them only if they are relevant to the employer and prepare yourself accordingly.
  1. Awards and Recognition
    • Max Two line about awards details, purpose and your involvement.
  2. Strength / Area of Interest
    • Highlight the positive areas, uniqueness
    • Define Clear goal, why?
    • Don’t write a big list of alternatives
  3. Personal Dossier
    • Your Name, DOB, Permanent Address, Passport Number, Language Known,
    • Nationality – it is usually not necessary to mention it.
    • Marital status .
    • Gender (it is not always required)
  4. Declaration
    • All details are true and validated
    • Add Name, Place, Date

REVIEW YOUR RESUME – 1

  • Go through your resume, read 3-4 times identify the strong points, create few questions via Resume.
  • Check for spellings, short forms, etc.
  • See that all relevant information is included.
  • Ensure that no unwanted information has crept in.
  • Ensure consistency of whatever style, font you chose, e.g. Titles font and Justify.
  • Consistency in Left Align, Right Align, Center
  • If your mail id has an underscore, ensure that your mail id is not automatically underlined by word.
  • Ensure that dates you have mentioned are not confusing write e.g. 22 Dec XXXX.

  • Does your resume reflect your personality?
  • Does your resume in line with your objective?
  • Does your resume cater to the needs of your employer?
  • Are you confident about resume?
